Between 1621 and 1622, artist Bernini created what is believed to be the most life-like sculpture of the Renaissance era. His work Ratto di Proserpina features some of the most supple skin — and the most fleshly grip — ever put to marble. Like Bernini and his cohorts, completedworks' Cushion Vessel explores the deceptive potential of material, conjuring the plushness of a pillow from ceramic.
